oceans are where I see the subliminel
Winning a competition at school when she was eleven was the start of Helen's art journey. Discovering oil painting while on holidays with her husband and young family in the early eighties, she painted for many years for her own enjoyment,
After taking art classes in Port Hedland, Helen sold her paintings in a cafe restaurant. The sale of some of her work was all the motivation that Helen needed to encourage her to keep painting.
Helen's inspiration is the ocean, "I love painting it" she says. In the same way she connects to the land and loves painting landscapes and wildflowers. Having a strong visual memory helps and being free to paint intuitively gives Helen an opportunity to allow the wonderful local light and energy to shine through her work.
"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever."
Jacques Cousteau

Helen explains that there is just this sweet spot where you stop worrying and the painting flows out of you, and the magic happens; you get addicted to that energy, and say to yourself "how the hell did I do that".
Helen's art studio overlooks the ocean and when she drives through the Geraldton area it gives her continual changing landscapes and inspiration. Helen loves sharing her knowledge, please find her pieces in the Studio Gallery
