AN EMERGING VISUAL ARTIST

Ruth Lamb is an English Australian artist who ventured to Australia in 2007 where she now lives and works.

Her art practice spans different mediums, painting, mixed media and ceramics.

Drawn to the visual arts from an early age, she studied Creative Arts full time before completing an Honours degree in Ceramics in Cornwall, UK.

With more than 25 years of experience teaching visual art, ceramics, textiles, and design, Ruth brings a deep knowledge of materials and an intuitive, explorative approach to her own practice. She views art as a way of thinking, feeling, and connecting. This philosophy shapes both her teaching and creative work.

I love the quiet poetry of everyday moments.

Finding playfulness

Working with paint, paper, ink, and collage, Ruth embraces the freedom of mixed media

and the spontaneity of mark-making. Many pieces begin through playful

experimentation and develop organically as she responds to what emerges.

Following a recent series inspired by Karijini, (please see here works for sale) Ruth is now exploring new still lifes and

imaginative abstract works. At the heart of her practice is a sense of healing and

playfulness-an ongoing search for beauty that invites curiosity, enjoyment, and connectio.n

Capturing Essence

Ruth’s art is informed by people, places, and the quiet poetry of everyday moments. Slow looking is how she describes it. Inspired by vintage design and objects with history, she gravitates toward limited colour palettes and layered surfaces. Her portraits seek to capture a person’s essence, while her still lifes and landscapes explore memory, atmosphere, and subtle detail.

THE SHOES BY RUTH LAMB

One of Ruth's latest artwork series, "The Shoes" was recently exhibited and designed for the Lightbox Exhibit in Geraldton, along one of Geraldton's colourful Laneways.

This collection is S A REFLECTION OF THE MOMENTS THAT PEOPLE HAVE WALKED, RAN, DANCED or waited AND SERVES AS AN ECHO OF PRESENCE. EACH TECHNIQUE CONTRIBUTES THE DIVERSITY OF CHARACTERS AND THEIR ADOPTED STYLE.

RUTH FINDS HERSELF RESONATING WITH THE IDEA OF A PHYSICAL CONNECTION TO THE GROUND THROUGH OUR FEET. THE ACT OF STANDING, WALKING, AND MOVING IS NOT ONLY PRACTICAL BUT SYMBOLIC OF STABILITY AND PRESENCE. SHOES AND FEET CARRY US FORWARD, SUPPORT US, AND KEEP US BALANCED. THEY BECOME A QUIET REMINDER OF THE IMPORTANCE OF GROUNDING OURSELVES IN BOTH PLACE AND EXPERIENCE.
